When to Go
The best time to visit Dundee is from late May to early September. During these months, you'll have the best chance of milder, drier weather and longer daylight hours, which is ideal for walking around the city, enjoying the waterfront, and climbing the Law for views. The summer months are also when various local festivals and events may take place. Spring (April-May) and early autumn (September-October) can also be pleasant, though cooler and with a higher chance of rain. Winters are cold, damp, and have very short days.
Dundonians are generally friendly, down-to-earth, and proud of their city's recent transformation. There's a strong sense of community and local identity, often tied to the city's industrial heritage ('jute, jam, and journalism') and its modern achievements in design and gaming. The city has a notable student population from the University of Dundee and Abertay University, which adds energy, especially in the West End.
